Meet the new mid-engine Maserati MC20, a super fast supercar from Italy. It is the spiritual successor of the crazy limited-edition Maserati MC12, although the new MC20 is comparatively more affordable, with prices set to start around $210.000. The Maserati MC20 looks ultra racy, lying low on the road with a big black grille and a spectacular aerodynamic package. The silky-smooth body is made of carbon fiber and aluminum, keeping weight down to just 1500 kilo.
The MC20 is powered by a brand new dry-sump 3.0 twin-turbocharged 90º V6 engine. Output is a massive 630 hp and 730 Nm. The engine is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with six power speeds and two overdrive gears, which are especially developed to make the MC20 comply with emission regulations. The gearbox sends every wild Italian horse to the rear wheels only. A lightweight body and a small yet powerful engine make for a lot of speed. It does 0-100 in 2.9 seconds, 0-200 in 8.8 seconds, and tops out at 325 kilometers per hour.
All this supercar violence needs a set of super brakes. Maserati sources the MC20’s brakes from Brembo. The MC20 has ventilated carbon ceramic brake discs all around. At the front, the brake discs have a diameter of 390 mm and a width of 36 mm. The front brake disc is fitted with a 6-piston monobloc caliper. The At the rear, the brake discs have a diameter of 360 mm and a width of 28 mm. The rear brake disc is fitted with a 4-piston monobloc caliper. The calipers are standard painted in blue but buyers can choose any color they want. Maserati claims a 100-0 km/h brake distance of only 33 meter, which is an impressive feat.
The race-focused interior of the Maserati MC20 is accessed via crowd-pleasing scissor doors. The MC20 is a true supercar statement. But there is more on the way. Maserati is developing a pure-electric variant of the MC20. The MC20 EV will be even faster than the V6-powered car and it will probably brake faster too, as it will be fitted with a regenerative braking system.
