McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the department of McLaren Automotive responsible for bespoke customer commissions, has confirmed details of the world’s first ‘Hyper-GT’ – the most exquisitely crafted and luxurious road-going McLaren to date.
Codenamed BP23 (which stands for Bespoke Project 2 featuring 3 seats), the MSO-developed car will feature the same three-seat layout and central driving position as the iconic, Gordon Murray-designed McLaren F1. Production is limited to 106 examples (a reference to the total number of F1s that were produced), and all have been pre-sold (sorry guys).
The aim is to begin delivery to customers at the start of 2019 – and design work has already begun. Each owner will work with MSO to create their own bespoke car, and will be able to select colour, trim and other aspects of personalisation. Such is the exceptional nature of the project, all of the switchgear will be bespoke to the car. And, for the first time, McLaren’s signature dihedral doors will be powered, with apertures extending into the roof.
McLaren Automotive’s Chief Executive Officer, Mike Flewitt, said: ‘We are calling BP23 a Hyper-GT because it’s a car designed for longer journeys, but with the high levels of
performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren. A hybrid powertrain will make it one of the most powerful McLarens yet created, but the car will also deliver the highest levels of refinement, enabling significant journeys to be undertaken with up to three people aboard.”
